Other uses for tubular Thermotile floors are for PLAYGROUNDS and EXERCISE ROOMS, as they also absorb impact.
"IMPACT TILE": THE MODULAR EXERCISE AND PLAYGROUND SAFETY FLOOR
Thermotiles can be made as soft modular tiles with multi-conduits for shock absorption without rebound. Impact tiles are designed and based on Thermotile patents. They can be installed in playgrounds, aerobics rooms, martial arts floors, running tracks, etc.
We made hand made samples of tubular shock absorbing floor tiles (flexible tubes put side by side with a 3/8 inch top) and compared the impact with currently used and approved 4 inch crumb rubber products.
Results with an impact tester showed the same or superior shock absorption versus the rubber crumb tiles but with one big difference - NO REBOUND .
When dropping a 16 lb bowling ball on the 4 inch crumb rubber floor the ball bounced 5 ft away - When dropping the same ball onto our tubular floors the bowling ball barely lifted.
Since the production cost to make tubular floor tiles is very low (in the $2.- range per square foot) there is a large profit to be made when compared to the $14.00 per square foot rubber crumb floors.
We also have the patents on "Loc Tile" a better interlocking mechanism for modular tiles which would give a better joining performance on the finished product.
